How The Static O-ring Seal Works
Beswick miniature fittings are designed to take advantage of the sealing capabilities of O-rings. The fittings incorporate a groove which is designed to retain an O-ring. This groove is purposely designed to have less height that the O-ring cross section. When a fitting is screwed into place, the O-ring is squeezed between the O-ring groove and the mating surface. An elastomeric O-ring will resist this squeeze or deformation and by attempting to return to its original shape will exert a force on the mating surfaces. This produces a seal in the areas where the O-ring contacts the mating surface and will prevent the passage of fluid.
