Beswick originated not only the use of an o-ring face seal in miniature
pneumatics, but also the single "line contact" barb. All
Beswick tube fittings feature this proprietary single-edge barb
profile which, unlike traditional "christmas tree" barbs,
allows tubing to be pushed onto the fitting easily by hand while
also providing exceptional holding power. The Beswick barb's outer
diameter is designed to make "line contact" with the inside
diameter of the tubing insuring a leak tight connection. Beswick
also offers the largest selection of barb sizes in the industry
providing you, the customer, with the optimum barb size for use
with your tubing. Other fitting manufacturers often only offer a
few barb sizes and this compromise results in either over stressed
tubing or a loose connection.
Our testing confirms that the Beswick barb holds polyurethane tubing
beyond the burst pressure of the tubing. These tests were performed
under static pressure conditions but since some applications may
involve pressure pulsing, heat, vibration etc, occasionally a clamp
should be considered. As a general guideline we recommend that customers
consider a clamp at pressures above 80 psi and strongly recommend
a clamp above 100 psi.
